Hardware update for the 20 meter

  • April 08, 2021 - 19:11:28

On April 07-08, 2021, we upgraded the computer that runs the monitor, control, and post-processing software for the 20 meter telescope and tested the new setup. This gives us more storage, a faster CPU and GPU, and more reliability overall. All data has been mirrored on the new machine. From a user's perspective, the only thing that has changed is the hostname -- you may need to change scripts, aliases, etc. if you access the computer directly. The 20 meter is connected to Skynet and processing observations.

Hardware fixes and OS updates for the 20 meter

  • February 10, 2021 - 19:55:40

The Azimuth drive failure has been corrected. Additionally, the operating system for monitor and control of the 20 meter has been updated. Normal observers should not experience any changes due to these updates. The 20 meter telescope is now back online, connected to Skynet, and ready for observations.

20 Meter hardware issues

  • February 08, 2021 - 16:23:30

The 20 meter telescope is experiencing some issues with the Azimuth lube pump number 1, forcing us to take the telescope offline for now. Mechanics at the Green Bank Observatory are currently working on the issue, and we'll post an update once the problem has been resolved.

The 20-meter telescope is off-line

  • April 21, 2020 - 14:17:45

The 20-meter telescope is off-line. Due to the COVID-19 virus and social distancing requirements, repairs to the 20M Telescope have been suspended until further notice. We will update this page when the 20-meter is again available for observing.
